ANDREAS DORAU

Andreas Dorau, born 1964, is a marvellous pop musician, equipped with the choicest humour and the gift of creating wonderful melodies. Aged 16, he wrote the huge hit "Fred vom Jupiter" and has been championed erroniously as representing German New Wave (NDW) ever since. His debut album "Blumen und Narzissen" (1981) was an independent product and an accordingly unpolished production. "Fred vom Jupiter" is just one of many good-tempered and infectious pop hits included. On his sophomore LP in 1983 "Die Doras ind Marinas geben offenherzige Antworten auf brennende Fragen", Dorau carries on where he left off with "Blumen und Narzissen": one pop hit follows another in quick succession. Only this time the songs are professionally produced and radio-friendly. After a five year hiatus, Dorau rediscovered his musical mojo in 1988. Influenced by the sounds of the sixties, he presented the "Demokratie" album, arranged by Michael Nyman, a set of fantastic pop songs with rousing, at times bizarre, arrangements. Inspired by sampling technology and the do-it-yourself spirit, Dorau recorded his fourth album at home together with Tommi Eckart (2raumwohnung). Lined with fine samples and drum loops, Dorau again delivered an album rich in dazzling pop songs.

New album "Aus der Bibliothèque"

Two years after releasing his highly acclaimed album "Todesmelodien" Andreas Dorau strikes back – this time with a real band! In fact his brand new album "Aus der Bibliothèque" is the first album which he has recorded with a band since "Demokratie" (1988). Backed by "Die Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemen", he sought inspiration in the quarry of ideas known as the Hamburg Central Library. The result: poppy krautrock, Beatlesque sunshine pop, soft rock, electronica. In short, a superb album!
