VONO

Modern Leben. Out February 28, 2025

After a couple of decades dancing in the dark, Berlin brothers Norbert and Volker Schultze finally found their way back into the spotlight via Bureau B's much-needed reissue of their minimal and masterful debut LP 'Dinner Für 2'. Now the Hamburg imprint turn their attention to the second VONO LP, 'Modern Leben', which found the brothers Schultze expanding on the stark palette of their debut, adding spiky fretwork and muscular rock chords to their infectious synth-lines and efficient rhythms for an altogether heftier sound.

Ambientale (Compiled by Charles Bals). Out February 7, 2025

Collector, seeker and storyteller Charles Bals brings his curatorial finesse to Hamburg's Bureau B with 'Ambientale', a journey into otherworldly sounds from the years 1983 - 2000. Drifting effortlessly between digital exoticism, mellow fusion, new age groove and library electronics, the pieces range from largely obscure to utterly un-google-able, and coalesce into a stunning soundtrack to tranquil seas, desert sand and starlit skies. Cinematic & enigmatic, 'Ambientale' is a stranger you've only just met but can't stop thinking about.

RÜDIGER LORENZ

Synrise - Early Tape Recordings 1981-83. Out January 31, 2025

If you're already aware of Rüdiger Lorenz, chances are you washed ashore on 'Southland', his cult kosmische curio graciously reissued by the ever-benevolent Bureau B in the middle of the last decade. Either that, or you're one of the few hundred electronic music obsessives who encountered his work the first time round, giddily grabbing up the eighteen cassette, vinyl and CD releases the prolific part-timer delivered DIY style on his Syntape and Syncord imprints between 1981-1998. I say this because despite a catalogue both copious and singular, and a renewed interest amongst the switched on and tuned in since his premature passing in 2000, Rüdiger's reception has remained sadly subterranean - another example of audio inequity. As such, it falls to 'Synrise', attentively assembled by Rüdiger's son Tim, to shine some rightful light on this unique talent.

Lux Tenera invites listeners into a meditative exploration of life, joy, and the beauty of existence. The composition premiered on April 21, 2024, in Tilburg, Netherlands, following an intense three-day rehearsal and recording period at Metropole Orkest's studio in Hilversum. This performance–now captured in the album–also marks a unique collaboration with British arranger and conductor Simon Dobson, whose sensitive transcription and arrangement of Philipp's music for orchestra elevates the work to an auditory spectacle.

CHIKISS

Between Time And Laziness. Out December 6, 2024

The enigmatic and expressive Chikiss breaks a three-year silence with Between Time and Laziness, a brand-new LP of dramatic and dreamlike synthpop perfectly suited to Hamburg's unfaltering Bureau B. Written in St. Petersburg, Berlin, and Athens, and co-produced by Finnish multi-instrumentalist Jaakko Eino Kalevi, the album renders the existential, psychological, and philosophical in song form. GÜNTER SCHICKERT

Samtvogel. Out November 15, 2024

It's hardly a secret that there was a lot of movement in German pop music during the late 60s and early 70s of the last century, and that many new things emerged then. Countless books have already been published on the subject of 'Krautrock', and many LPs from this period have been re-released. Günter Schickert only released two LPs in the 70s: "Überfällig" (Sky Records, 1979 / Bureau B, 2012) and "Samtvogel" (Brain, 1976). Now, exactly 50 years after its original release, "Samtvogel" has returned.

EAT-GIRLS

Area Silenzio. Out November 8, 2024

Area Silenzio is eat-girls' debut record and it is both haunted and haunting. For the past four years, the French trio have been crafting their songs into little self-contained worlds with the patience of entomologists, taking them out all over the country and Europe to confront them with the wilderness of a live audience. The ten resulting tracks are a collection of electronic madrigals, groove-driven songs played on a mischievous multi-speed Victrola, ranging from languid dub drips to full-on drum machine cavalcades.

HARALD GROSSKOPF

Strom. Out October 18, 2024

You don't really need to say much about this man: co-founder of Wallenstein, drummer on at least two of the most wonderful Krautrock albums (namely "Mother Universe" and "Cosmic Century"), member of the legendary "Kosmische Kuriere", records with Ash Ra Temple and Klaus Schulze. Finally, Harald Grosskopf switched from drums to sequencers and created something breathtaking. I listened to his solo debut Synthesist (1980) to death, and few days began without "So weit, so gut". It was a record that did everything right, that salvaged whatever could be salvaged from Kraut, adding the melancholy with which one suddenly looked back on everything that could still be naively believed and played in the 70s. Then in 1985 came the follow-up Oceanheart, no less great, albeit already noticeably more minimalist. Manuel Göttsching could be sensed in the distance if you surrendered to the track "Eve on the Hill" and followed it into the depths. Time passed, the music stayed with me. I lost sight of Harald Grosskopf, even though he did produce an album from time to time. And now: "Strom". The evocation of electricity, the virtuosity of the circuit that skillfully intertwines man and machine, an antidote to the triumphal march of desolate musical digitality.

FAUST

Blickwinkel (curated by Zappi Diermaier). Out September 13, 2024

After dipping into the archive to deliver a series of essential reissues, Bureau B continues to encourage the chaotic brilliance of Faust with an LP of brand new music curated by originator Zappi Diermaier and a band of musical friends, including Uwe Bastiansen, Elke Drapatz, Dirk Dresselhaus, Jochen Arbeit, Sonja Kosche, Andrew Unruh, and fellow founding member Gunther Wüsthoff. Over the years, Faust has become many things, each as separate as the fingers but as together as the hand that makes up their eponymous fist. From 1971 to 1974, the Hamburg band blazed a bold sonic trail, helping to create the distinct and delirious strand of German music we've come to know as Krautrock. Uncompromising, innovative, and experimental, their releases in that period and the stories accompanying their creation are nothing short of legendary, and the fact that after a hiatus, the band returned and remained active in a variety of separate and simultaneous incarnations is entirely fitting for these musical revolutionaries. On Blickwinkel, Diermaier's incarnation embraces synchronicity and chance in order to capture the moment in a six-track snapshot of industrial churn, unsettling ambience, and psychedelic motorik.

HEIKO MAILE + JULIAN DEMARRE

Neostalgia. Out September 6, 2024

Heiko Maile and Julian Demarre, both pop musicians and film composers, have been collaborating since the mid-90s album classic "MEANWHILE" by Camouflage. While Heiko continued pursuing the perfect pop song, they both landed their first feature film score gigs. In recent years while working together on several films, they felt they should create something for themselves - a love letter to 70s and 80s electronic music. With some esoteric 1970s keyboards from Japan designed for the sound of tomorrow they have now recorded an album for all the days after tomorrow. The result is the genre-bending album NEOSTALGIA, a unique blend of various electronic styles and 1970s Krautrock with pieces featuring intros/outros, flutes, flanger guitars and vocoders, and tracks pushing the six-minute mark.

JIMI TENOR

Sähkömies. Out August 16, 2024

With Sähkömies, Jimi Tenor released his legendary solo debut in 1994 on Puu, a spin-off of the Finnish label Sähkö Recordings founded by Tommi Grönlund and Mika Vainio in 1993. Recorded in Tenor's former home in New York, the album offers a previously unheard mixture of drum machine driven, electronic sounds and Sun Ra-inspired jazz. Written, recorded and produced entirely by Tenor in his apartment, the pieces have lost none of their spontaneous, roughcast charm to this day. The record combines lo-fi electronics with Jimi Tenor's typical smoky saxophone playing, offering a fascinating listening experience that documents an artist who is full of curiosity and the joy of experimentation. For the 30th anniversary of Sähkömies, Bureau B is thrilled to make this special album available again on LP and CD.

SPRUNG AUS DEN WOLKEN

1981 - West-Berlin. Out July 5, 2024

The Berlin project Sprung Aus Den Wolken was part of the "Geniale Dilletanten" movement in the early 1980s, along with Einstürzende Neubauten and Mechanik Destrüktiw Komandöh. The band first released an EP on ZickZack in 1981, followed by further releases on the band's own record label Faux Pas in 1982 and 1983, then on the French outlet Les Disques Du Soleil Et De L'Acier until 1991. The track Pas Attendre was part of the soundtrack of Wim Wender's movie Der Himmel Über Berlin and thus became an underground hit. Bureau B is thrilled to now re-release the debut EP under the title "1981 - West-Berlin" including additional songs from the band's early days, which have been carefully remastered from the original cassettes.

CLUSTER

Zuckerzeit (50th Anniversary Edition). Out June 14, 2024

Limited Anniversary Edition: 180g vinyl, hand numbered, 1000 copies available! In 1974, Cluster entered the sugar era. This doesn't mean that they had finally arrived in their promised land, but they had simply moved from Berlin to the country, to a small place called Forst on the river Weser. Many a thing had changed for band members Moebius and Roedelius since Cluster II: They had moved from boisterous Berlin to this calm rural village, they had founded the band Harmonia, had set up their own studio and had bought new equipment. As a result of this and many other things, new impulses were noticeably spurring the evolution of their music. The album Zuckerzeit ("sugar era") launched a revolution for Cluster.

Founded in the southern German city of Bietigheim-Bissingen by Heiko Maile, Oliver Kreyssig and Marcus Meyn in the year 1984, the band Camouflage scored an unexpected international hit with their debut album 'Voices & Images' in 1988. Their sophomore album 'Methods Of Silence', released just a year later, was an even bigger success. Songs like 'The Great Commandment' and 'Love Is A Shield', went on to become perennial classics of the synth pop genre. Heiko Maile and Marcus Meyn recorded their fourth album 'Bodega Bohemia' in the synthsound studio of Belgian producer and electro-pop pioneer Dan Lacksman. It was released on 26 April 1993. To mark the 30th anniversary of the album, the band opened up the archives to assemble a special bonus edition including a wealth of rare and unreleased recordings, limited to 500 4-LP sets and 1,500 triple CDs.

CONRAD SCHNITZLER

Slow Motion. Out May 10, 2024

The 1960s weren't just about The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and hippies, they also ushered in new forms of art: happenings, Fluxus, Neo-Dada, video art, to name just a few. As borders blurred, pop influenced art and art influenced pop. Many protagonists of the time chose to ignore borders altogether. This chaotic, euphoric atmosphere of extreme innovation lasted well into the 1970s and continues to resonate today.

KARL BARTOS

The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari. Out February 16, 2024

Musician and writer Karl Bartos has long been admirer of Weimar-era culture. During his time in Kraftwerk, he helped create the stunning track 'Metropolis', directly inspired by a band viewing of the classic 1927 Fritz Lang film of the same name. The original orchestral music composed for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari by Giuseppe Becce had long been lost and in 2005, after watching the film, Bartos imagined what it would be like to create an entirely new one in the 21st Century in his home studios in Hamburg. Now with crystal clear images, digitally restored by the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Foundation, the film is visually the best quality it has ever been, and now, with Bartos' soundtrack, there is impressive sound to go with the haunting vision.
