VONO

Dinner für 2. Reissue from 1982. CD, vinyl, digital

Among the lesser known dark-electro/post-punk bands of the early 1980s, the Berlin duo VONO really stood out. The radical nature of their music, the cold sound and sparse lyrics — VONO were arguably on a par with the more prominent ambassadors of the genres (DAF, Liaisons Dangereuses etc). Extreme even for the early eighties, their minimalism was constructed purely on synthesizers and heavy on bass. With lyrics to match, their debut album "Dinner für 2" was unique. First time on CD.

ANDREAS SPECHTL

Thinking About Tomorrow, And How To Build It. CD, vinyl, digital

The new album "Thinking About Tomorrow, And How To Build It" by Andreas Spechtl (Ja, Panik) is an emotional bridge to the cosmic music of Can and the aural sculptures of Conrad Schnitzler. It is a modern and hybrid work — Spechtl mines deep strata of sound and samples in his sonic quarry, layering them over a constant bass drum, capable of launching every DJ set into a new space and time continuum. Recorded in Teheran.

DER PLAN

Unkapitulierbar. CD, vinyl, digital

You read it correctly: Moritz R®, Kurt Dahlke (a.k.a. Pyrolator) and Frank Fenstermacher recorded a new album—after 25 years. DER PLAN was one of the—and perhaps the most—powerful German bands during the time of musical departure at the beginning of the 1980s. An external occasion provided the spark for the idea of a comeback: As the birthday band at Andreas Dorau's 50th two years ago, the band discovered that they could still have fun playing music together. So the band collected sketches, fragments and ideas that had accumulated over the years and produced "Unkapitulierbar" ("Uncapitulable") in three weeks at Pyrolator's Ata Tak Studio Berlin. Welcome back!

BROCKMANN // BARGMANN

Licht. CD, vinyl, digital

Sounds of celestial beauty and infernal force: Brockmann // Bargmann (Ex-Camera) celebrate keys, guitars and effects. Esteemed for their improvisational audacity, hurtling forwards to a motorik beat, there is another side to the Berlin "Krautrock Guerilla" trio Camera which sees them explore landscapes of sound. This is exactly what the two founder members Franz Bargmann (guitar) and Timm Brockmann (keyboards) present to us on their purely instrumental debut album "Licht". Harmonic and melancholic, tender and tough, planar and rhythmic — yet never dull.

CLUSTER

Qua. Reissue. CD, vinyl, digital

The last studio album by the legendary krautronic duo (Dieter Moebius/Hans-Joachim Roedelius), recorded 2009 in Ohio by Tim Story. Seventeen miniature worlds, some icy, some warm, all infused with that Cluster elusiveness and unpredictability. Playful, dark, funny, human, Qua captures that deceptive Cluster heartbeat — unmistakably modern but utterly timeless.

MOEBIUS STORY LEIDECKER

Familiar. CD, vinyl, digital

In 2012, three very different protagonists of the electronic music scene joined forces in a studio in Montana to produce two albums of truly remarkable music. Dieter Moebius (1944—2015) charted new "Krautronik" ground as one half of Cluster for many years. Tim Story is known for his warm soundscapes, whilst Jon Leidecker has made a name for himself, or rather for his "Wobbly" pseudonym, with experimental adventures in sound. "Familiar" is the follow-up to the highly acclaimed "Snowghost Pieces" from 2014 — armonious, electronic improvisations of the highest order.

KRANEMANN & GROSSKOPF

Krautwerk. CD, vinyl, digital

KRAUTWERK — that means: cosmic sonic visions of today, tomorrow and beyond transmitted in one of the most exciting collaborations in recent years. Harald Grosskopf played drums on the early Klaus Schulze albums and recorded thirteen albums with Ashra. His solo works "Synthesist" and "Oceanheart" are outstanding releases of the German electronic music scene. Eberhard Kranemann studied music at the Dortmund Conservatory and art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He played a couple of shows as a member of NEU! in 1972, co-founded the electronic bands Kraftwerk and Pissoff and released albums under the pseudonym Fritz Müller. Kranemann and Grosskopf did not know each other until they met for the first time in 2016 on a festival where they both performed their solo projects. They decided to merge the different sounds of Düsseldorf and Berlin school of electronic music together, resulting in energetic, contemporary new sounds.

DIETER MOEBIUS

Kram. Reissue from 2009. CD, vinyl, digital

Dieter Moebius (1944—2015) was one half of the legendary duo Cluster and the godfather of electronic krautrock. Bureau B are reissuing his last four solo albums. "Kram" was originally released in 2009. It will be available on vinyl for the first time. In English, "kram" means "stuff" and the title is fitting. Synthetic, toy-like sounds skitter across the soundstage, colliding with those unlikely rhythms, and modulating in real time with Moebi's unmistakable hand on the controls. It's arguably Moebius' most cheerful and mischievous album. Out June 16, 2017. CD / vinyl / digital

Ding. Reissue from 2011. CD, vinyl, digital

"Ding" was originally released in 2011. It will be available on vinyl for the first time. If Moebius' previous album "Kram" was an irreverent melange of bright synthetic textures, 2011's Ding might be considered Moebi's industrial album. It's music you might conceivably dance to, if your legs aren't quite the same length. Out June 16, 2017. CD / vinyl / digital

faUSt

Fresh Air. CD, LP, Deluxe LP, digital

faUSt has recorded a new album. It is entitled "Fresh Air" and differs in several respects from its predecessor "Just Us". For the new album, Péron and Diermaier were looking for communication with musician friends and the audience. The tracks were recorded in changing ensembles at changing locations in the USA (during a 28-day tour in March/April 2016). In these community recordings, with friendly support from Péron's database of field recordings, a strongly shaded noise music emerged which extends its feelers to the remotest corners of the here and now.

CLUSTER

Konzerte 1972/1977. CD, LP, digital

The two authorized recordings presented here vividly conjure up the atmosphere, perhaps even the magic, of a Cluster performance back in the day. One took place in 1977 during a science fiction festival in Metz (France). The other dates back to an earlier show in Hamburg's Fabrik venue. The sound quality of these two documents is average. A successful performance was considered more important than a perfect recording thereof. We as listeners should accept that today. Our reward is a short journey into the nascent heart of Cluster's creative universe, just after the big bang.

CON-STRUCT

Conrad Schnitzler & Pole. CD, vinyl, digital

The German pioneer of electronic music Conrad Schnitzler (1937-2011) amassed a vast archive of sounds for use in combination with each other in live performances. In 2011 the idea came up of con-structing new compositions, not remixes, from this material. The Con-Struct series was born. This release features con-structions by Pole.

KREIDLER

European Song. CD, vinyl (incl. CD), lim. golden vinyl, digital

It was originally intended to be an entirely different album. KREIDLER had already completed a new LP just prior to recording European Song. In their 23 years of existence, KREIDLER have often made music that might be described as "dystopian". And here we are today, faced with the much greater likelihood of all those nightmare scenarios becoming excruciatingly real. Suddenly KREIDLER'S previously intended new album felt wrong for this universe. The decision was made to make a NEW new record. Right away.

JURRIAAN ANDRIESSEN

The Awakening Dream. CD, vinyl, digital

Jurriaan Andriessen (1925–1996) was a Dutch composer. Although he was actually at home in classical music, he recorded three synthesizer albums in the late 1970s, the first of which, "The Awakening Dream" (1977), is an outstanding excursion into experimental ambient and minimal music. Andriessen himself, 52 years of age at the time, called it a "a trance symphony". The music is less in the tradition of his peers such as Boulez or Stockhausen and more in tune with the electronic sounds of the likes of Cluster, early Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream, in places echoing Conrad Schnitzler. On CD for the first time!

CONRAD SCHNITZLER

Filmmusik 2. CD, vinyl, digital

In the year 1975 Conrad Schnitzler recorded various pieces of music to accompany films which had yet to be made. Fittingly, he labelled this collection of songs "Filmmusik". The music is extraordinarily accessible for Schnitzler: hypnotic bass lines, stoic drum rhythms, dark drones, crystalline shards of melody. "Filmmusik 2" features five tracks from the 1975 recordings plus one 23 minute track called "Lichtpunkte und schwarze Zeichen", recorded in 1978 for Schnitzler's film project of the same name.

ULAN BATOR

Stereolith. CD, vinyl (incl. CD), digital

In today's increasingly barren rock and roll landscape, Ulan Bator stand as beacons of explorative songwriting. Formed in Paris in 1993 by Amaury Cambuzat (vocals, guitar and keyboards) and Olivier Manchion (Bass), the band's atmospheric approach to composition has consistently yielded guitar-driven avant-rock at once hypnotic and untamed. And while their sound has developed in a variety of directions — often in relationship to changing line-ups and various collaborations, including with krautrock legends Faust and Swans' Michael Gira — Ulan Bator's resist simple categorization: kraut-y repetition, post-rock guitar flourishes, kosmische synth work, intimate whispering and pounding drums have all taken an audible lead throughout their now twenty-year career.

V. A.: MAGNETBAND

Experimenteller Elektronik-Underground DDR 1984–1989.
CD, vinyl, digital

Inspired by Punk and Post Punk, vibrant scenes dedicated to independent self-actualisation by means of sound circulated on self-distributed cassettes, in the 80s the cheapest and fastest medium, were developing not only in the FRG but also in the GDR (=DDR). The artefacts from that era tell of a stance of refusal in practice, and of the possibility to charge up on a high level, in spite of everything. "Magnetband" features 14 exciting experimental-electronic pieces from the GDR that originally have been released between 1984 and 1989 on cassettes only.

V. A.: SAMMLUNG

Elektronische Kassettenmusik Düsseldorf 1982–1989. CD, vinyl, digital

Düsseldorf in the early 1980s. Punk was finished, but its pathos still drifted desolately through pubs and shared flats. At the same time, Synthesizers had become increasingly affordable due to digital electronics, allowing more and more people to make music. This music pushed ahead slightly in order to dock onto the electronic sounds of the 1970s Krautrock scene – no one called it "cosmic music" back in those days. But most chose the detour via records by Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, Eric Random, Human League or the more unfamiliar experimental sounds gathered on a somewhat morbid-looking compilation entitled "The Elephant Table Album". Cassette labels like Klar! 80 with their exciting yellow and black packaged tapes madie it easy to release them and shops like Heartbeat and Pure Freude served as an umbrella for the disparate strands of the electronic side of post punk. Almost all artists on this compilation could be seen frequently there. The cassette generation did not bother about crossing over to pop music. They were pioneers of a music which would later develop into Drone, Ambient or Hypnaogogic.
