Willem Makkee dies

Our friend for so many years, Willem Makkee died on 6th December. Responsible for mastering the majority of our reissues, his passion for bringing the best out of the music was matched by his meticulous attention to detail. When the news reached us, we happened to be listening to the vinyl test pressings of the first four Heldon albums and the first Richard Pinhas record. This would be the last project that Willem worked on for us. We are deeply saddened by his death and our thoughts are with his wife and family.

Willem, thank you!

Finest 80's dark electro —
VONO's "Dinner für 2" reissue out now

Among the lesser known dark-electro/post-punk bands of the early 1980s, the Berlin duo VONO really stood out. The radical nature of their music, the cold sound and sparse lyrics – VONO were arguably on a par with the more prominent ambassadors of the genres (DAF, Liaisons Dangereuses etc). Extreme even for the early eighties, their minimalism was constructed purely on synthesizers and heavy on bass. With lyrics to match, their debut album "Dinner für 2" was unique. First time on CD. Out now on CD, LP, digital!

Two Cluster reissues out now!
"Live in Vienna" (1980) + "Qua" (2009)

We have completed our Cluster catalogue! "Live in Vienna" is a stunning document of a highly experimental live performance with drummer Joshi Farnbauer 1980 in Vienna. First time on vinyl. Even double vinyl! (But also on CD and digitally)

"Qua" is Cluster's last studio album, recorded 2009. Seventeen miniature worlds, some icy, some warm, all infused with that Cluster elusiveness and unpredictability. Playful, dark, funny, human, "Qua" captures that deceptive Cluster heartbeat — unmistakably modern but utterly timeless. Both reissues are available now.

Andreas Spechtl album out now!

The new album "Thinking About Tomorrow, And How To Build It" by Andreas Spechtl (Ja, Panik) is an emotional bridge to the cosmic music of Can and the aural sculptures of Conrad Schnitzler. It is a modern and hybrid work – Spechtl mines deep strata of sound and samples in his sonic quarry, layering them over a constant bass drum, capable of launching every DJ set into a new space and time continuum. Recorded in Teheran. Out now on CD, LP, digital!

Moebius Story Leidecker:
"Familiar" out now!

In 2012, three very different protagonists of the electronic music scene joined forces in a studio in Montana to produce two albums of truly remarkable music. Dieter Moebius (1944—2015) charted new "Krautronik" ground as one half of Cluster for many years. Tim Story is known for his warm soundscapes, whilst Jon Leidecker has made a name for himself, or rather for his "Wobbly" pseudonym, with experimental adventures in sound. "Familiar" is the follow-up to the highly acclaimed "Snowghost Pieces" from 2014 — armonious, electronic improvisations of the highest order. Available as CD/LP/Digital.

Esmark debut albums "Māra I" and Māra II" out now!

Esmark, named after a glacier at Spitzbergen that debouches into the Ymerbay, is a collaboration between the sound architect Nikolai von Sallwitz (Taprikk Sweezee, Karachi Files) and the experimental artist Alsen Rau (Scheich in China, On+Brr). Esmark's musical setup is mainly build analog. Instruments like drum computers and synth boxes have been connected in constantly changing chains of fx and filters. Some recorded on tape and fed back into the compositions. In late 2016 in scandinavian solitude, quite a number of tracks have been recorded by Esmark and some of the work is now released as two parallel albums named Māra I / Māra II on Bureau B! Available as CD/LP/Digital.

Harald Grosskopf & Eberhard Kranemann release "Krautwerk"!

KRAUTWERK – that means: cosmic sonic visions of today, tomorrow and beyond transmitted in one of the most exciting collaborations in recent years. Harald Grosskopf played drums on the early Klaus Schulze albums and recorded thirteen albums with Ashra. His solo works "Synthesist" and "Oceanheart" are outstanding releases of the German electronic music scene. Eberhard Kranemann studied music at the Dortmund Conservatory and art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He cofounded the electronic bands Kraftwerk, NEU!, Pissoff and released albums under the pseudonym Fritz Müller. Kranemann and Grosskopf did not know each other until they met for the first time in 2016 on a festival where they both performed their solo projects. They decided to merge the different sounds of Düsseldorf and Berlin school of electronic music together, resulting in energetic, contemporary new sounds. "Krautwerk" is out now! Digital/CD/LP.

New album by DER PLAN!
Back after 25 years! #So great!

You read it correctly: Moritz R®, Kurt Dahlke (a.k.a. Pyrolator) and Frank Fenstermacher recorded a new album—after 25 years. DER PLAN was one of the—and perhaps the most—powerful German bands during the time of musical departure at the beginning of the 1980s. An external occasion provided the spark for the idea of a comeback: As the birthday band at Andreas Dorau's 50th two years ago, the band discovered that they could still have fun playing music together. So they collected sketches, fragments and ideas that had accumulated over the years and produced "Unkapitulierbar" ("Uncapitulable") at Pyrolator's Ata Tak Studio Berlin. Out now.

Quirky loops — strange music:
Moebius' "Kram" & "Ding" reissued

Dieter Moebius — one half of the legendary duo Cluster and the godfather of electronic krautrock — passed away in the summer of 2015. Bureau B are reissuing his final four solo albums. Following on from "Blotch" and "Nurton" (2016) "Kram" and "Ding" now complete the quartet. These two albums will be availabe on vinyl for the very first time. Liner notes were penned by Moebius' friend, the U.S. composer, producer and musician Tim Story.
In "Kram" synthetic, toy-like sounds skitter across the soundstage, colliding with those unlikely rhythms, and modulating in real time with Moebi's unmistakable hand on the controls. It is arguably Moebius' most cheerful and mischievous album. 2011's "Ding" might be considered Moebi's industrial album. It is music you might conceivably dance to, if your legs aren't quite the same length.
Both albums are out now on CD/LP/DL.

Cluster live recordings "Konzerte 1972/1977" out now!

The two authorized recordings presented here vividly conjure up the atmosphere, perhaps even the magic, of a Cluster performance back in the day. One took place in 1977 during a science fiction festival in Metz (France). The other dates back to an earlier show in Hamburg's Fabrik venue. The sound quality of these two documents is average. A successful performance was considered more important than a perfect recording thereof. We as listeners should accept that today. Our reward is a short journey into the nascent heart of Cluster's creative universe, just after the big bang. Out now on DL/stream, CD and LP.

New faUSt album "Fresh Air" out now

faUSt has recorded a new album. It is entitled "Fresh Air" and differs in several respects from its predecessor "Just Us". For the new album, Péron and Diermaier were looking for communication with musician friends and the audience. The tracks were recorded in changing ensembles at changing locations in the USA (during a 28-day tour in March/April 2016). In these community recordings, with friendly support from Péron's database of field recordings, a strongly shaded noise music emerged which extends its feelers to the remotest corners of the here and now. "Fresh Air" is out now on DL/stream, CD, LP and ltd Deluxe LP.

Jurriaan Andriessen: reissue of
"The Awakening Dream" out now

Jurriaan Andriessen (1925–1996) was a Dutch composer. Although he was actually at home in classical music, he recorded three synthesizer albums in the late 1970s, the first of which, "The Awakening Dream" (1977), is an outstanding excursion into experimental ambient and minimal music. Andriessen himself, 52 years of age at the time, called it a "a trance symphony". The music is less in the tradition of his peers such as Boulez or Stockhausen and more in tune with the electronic sounds of the likes of Cluster, early Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream, in places echoing Conrad Schnitzler. CD/LP/DL out now!

New KREIDLER album
"European Song" out now

It was originally intended to be an entirely different album. KREIDLER had already completed a new LP just prior to recording "European Song". In their 23 years of existence, KREIDLER have often made music that might be described as "dystopian". And here we are today, faced with the much greater likelihood of all those nightmare scenarios becoming excruciatingly real. Suddenly KREIDLER'S previously intended new album felt wrong for this universe. The decision was made to make a NEW new record. Right away. And here it is. Available on vinyl and CD, downloadable and streamable.

Conrad Schnitzler & Pole:
"Con-Struct" out now!

After Pyrolator and Schneider TM it is now Pole who con-structed the third part of our Conrad Schnitzler series. Contrary to the original "Con-Struct" concept, it was his idea to do it half and half:

"50 percent sounds from Conrad and 50 percent from me. The collaboration went according to the following rules: I myself use four things – a modified old rhythm machine, two old synthesizers, and my modular system. From Schnitzler come four complex sounds, which are always run through a modular system. Coincidence should play an important role. Then i send everything through my mixer – for dubbing. It worked almost automatically. His sounds led and i joined in. It felt a little bit like we could understand each other. The two of us. I would have liked to have met him." DL/CD/LP out now.

Conrad Schnitzler & Pole "Con-Struct": new video online!

Material is taken from Conrad Schnitzler films "Zwölf Jahre Kur für Michelangelo", "Uper" and "Alptraumstrassen und Alpträume". 3 layers rhythmically intertwined and overlapped. Video created and edited by Pyrolator. Pole's "Con-Struct" will be out on March 24th.

FEBRUARY 2017

ULAN BATOR "Stereolith" out now!

In today's increasingly barren rock and roll landscape, Ulan Bator stand as beacons of explorative songwriting. Formed in Paris in 1993 by Amaury Cambuzat (vocals, guitar and keyboards) and Olivier Manchion (Bass), the band's atmospheric approach to composition has consistently yielded guitar-driven avant-rock at once hypnotic and untamed. And while their sound has developed in a variety of directions – often in relationship to changing line-ups and various collaborations, including with krautrock legends Faust and Swans' Michael Gira – Ulan Bator's resist simple categorization: kraut-y repetition, post-rock guitar flourishes, kosmische synth work, intimate whispering and pounding drums have all taken an audible lead throughout their now twenty-year career. "Stereolith" is the first Ulan Bator release on Bureau B and is out now. Digital/CD/LP/ltd LP.

New ULAN BATOR video online!

Here's a new track from the upcoming Ulan Bator album "Stereolith". Song is called "NeuNeu" and here's a short statement from the band:

"We are very happy to show you our new video, taken from our upcoming album Stereolith that will be released on Friday the 24th of February 2017 on label bureau b. NeuNeu is a wink to the Düsseldorf legendary band: Neu! but and above all, neuneu in French means: foolish or even simpleton. Going crazy, going simpleton, that's the basic meaning of this song.

This video has a deeper sense as we also wanted to show how our character could reach the freedom by returning to his origins. Lastly, I can swear you that we had a lot of fun shooting this video directed by Julien Perrin. I'm still asking myself how Maurizio the character actor made it! It was so cold in the forest that day...

To be seen from the beginning till the end. Enjoy!"

Two compilations with 1980's electronic cassette music. Out now.

"Sammlung – Elektronische Kassettenmusik Düsseldorf 1982-1989", compiled by Stefan Schneider (Kreidler, to rococo rot, Roedelius Schneider), is a collection of electronic productions that were created around cassette labels like Klar! 80 and record shops like Heartbeat and Pure Freude in Düsseldorf: includes tracks from artists like Konrad Kraft, Deux Baleines Blanches, Le Petit Mort and more... CD and LP are including linernotes by Oliver Tepel. MC version is limited to 100 copies. Out now on MC/CD/LP/DL.

"Magnetband – Experimenteller Elektronik-Underground DDR 1984–1989" focuses on East Germany. Inspired by Punk and Post Punk, with plenty of time and free of economic restraints (or rather possibilities), the protagonists – musicians, painters, poets, filmmakers, performers (often all at once) – often experimented with no regard to the final product. Back in 2006 Bert Papenfuß, Ronald Lippok, Bernd Jestram and Bo Kondren, compiled two companion CDs accompanying the long sold-out Zonic special edition book "Spannung. Leistung. Widerstand. Magnetbanduntergrund DDR 1979-1990" of which the more experimental-electronic pieces were chosen for our compilation. 14 tracks from artists like A. F. Moebius, Ornament & Verbrechen und Der Demokratische Konsum. CD and LP include linernotes by Alexander Pehlemann. MC is limited to 100 copies. Out now on MC/CD/LP/DL.

Schnitzler "Filmmusik 2" out now!

In the year 1975 Conrad Schnitzler recorded various pieces of music to accompany films which had yet to be made. Fittingly, he labelled this collection of songs "Filmmusik". The music is extraordinarily accessible for Schnitzler: hypnotic bass lines, stoic drum rhythms, dark drones, crystalline shards of melody. "Filmmusik 2" features five tracks from the 1975 recordings plus one 23 minute track called "Lichtpunkte und schwarze Zeichen", recorded in 1978 for Schnitzler's film project of the same name. Out on CD/LP/digital.

New soundtrack for "Metropolis"
by Dieter Moebius. Out now!

In 2012 Dieter Moebius (1944–2015) was invited to perform music to Fritz Lang's legendary silent film "Metropolis". For this purpose he produced pre-arranged tracks and samples to be treated with effects and combined during live improvisation according to the dramaturgical setting of the film. His impressive work reveals its full power and depth in combination with the images from the film. Out now: CD/vinyl/digital.
